Mr David Saunders is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in North Wales

He qualified as a doctor in 1986 from Manchester University having first received a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Andrews University in 1983.

He has specialised in Ophthalmic Surgery since 1987. His training was based in Manchester Royal Eye Hospital, one of the largest teaching eye hospitals in the UK.

He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1991 having obtained the Diploma of Ophthalmology of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1990.

In 1995 he undertook a fellowship in Vancouver, Canada at the British Columbia Children's Hospital.

In 1996 he took up his current post as Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon at Conwy & Denbighshire NHS Trust (now Betsi Cadwaladr University LHB) where he was Clinical Director for 6 years.

Stanley Eye Unit is the premier unit in North Wales performing over 3500 cataract operations each year and providing specialist ophthalmic services for tertiary referral from other eye units in North Wales.

He is fully registered with the General Medical Council  (GMC No. 3180026) and is on the Specialist Register for Ophthalmology.

He is registered with Private Healthcare Information Network (PHIN) and was awarded a fellowship of the BMA in 2017.

Privately he consults and operates at Abergele Hospital and is a recognised specialist by all the major healthcare insurers.
